Visual Effects Producer

  • Works with the visual effects supervisor to break down the script into storyboards
  • Advises the director as to how to approach the scenes and how to shoot sequences
  • Together, determine where to use miniature and/or computer generated scenes

Visual Effects Creative Director

  • Like production designers, except with computer generated imagery and scenes

Visual Effects Supervisor

  • In charge of the VFX crew, working with production and the director to achieve the desired in-camera optical effects

Visual Effects Editor

  • Incorporates visual effects into live action sequences, producing multiple versions of each shot
  • Altered scenes are then evaluated by the visual effects supervisor and creative director before final editing

Compositor

  • Is a visual effects artist responsible for compositing images from different sources

Roto, paint

  • Artists who rotoscope footage, manually creating mattes
  • Responsible for removing wires and rigs, logos, dust busting, scratch removal, etc

Matte Painter

  • These artists draw/paint entire sets or extend portions of an existing set

Graphics Coordinator

  • GC decides what graphic content should be displayed on-air

Video Control Operator/Vision Engineering

  • Is responsible for controlling the video console to regulate transmission of television scenes
  • Control contrast, framing, brilliance, color balance, and the fidelity of the transmitted image
  • Monitor the technical quality of the broadcast, and review transmissions
  • Are used only in television productions recorded on video tape

Video Tape Operator

  • VTR Operators cue and prepare video inserts into a program
  • Sets up and operates the video tape equipment
  • Select the source from which the program will be recorded
  • Used in sports and news programming, and sometimes sitcoms if they are shot on video tape
  • Responsible for action replays and quickly editing highlights while a show is in progress
